HN Jazz Ensemble

The Honors Jazz Ensemble is for students with significant jazz experience (Grades 9-12) to become highly conversant with complex harmonic structures; the professional jazz scene and its icons; improvise over various forms, keys, and styles; and compose or arrange for chamber groups. As an Honors course, students undertake independent study that includes synthesis of learning and experience. Public performances serve as a culmination of specific instructional goals. Students are required to participate in rehearsals and performances outside of the school day to support, extend, and assess learning in the classroom.
