MYP HN English 9
The emphasis of the honors ninth grade program is on literature, literary genres, research, and composition. The literature is presented by genre: prose, poetry, fiction, nonfiction, tragedy, and comedy. Students are required to identify and analyze critically the major characteristics and technical aspects of each genre. Composition is an integral part of the literature program. A supplementary reading program consisting of fiction and nonfiction complements the regular program. Discussion seminars require oral participation and class leadership. Language skills, including vocabulary, style, and conventions, are practiced in writing and speaking. MYP instruction emphasizes IB principles, such as global contexts, Approaches to Learning, international mindedness, the Learner Profile, and development of skills for lifelong learning.
