Basic Guitar Technique and Performance

This course gives students the fundamental skills for playing the guitar. No prior knowledge is required to take this course. Students will learn parts of the instrument, proper posture, strumming techniques, along with learning how to read music notes and guitar tabs. The class will give an overview of the basic history of the guitar, important guitarists throughout history, different genres of music that incorporate the guitar, and favorite songs of the class. The primary focus of the course will be playing the guitar both alone and with the ensemble. There will be two performances throughout the year, with the possibility of other musical opportunities. Guitars will be provided, but must be returned at the end of the year.
